we are listening to the 80s, getting the dust of the 68s and searching for new talents in Berlin – SUPERTAPE is doing the music supervision and copyright clearing for the new feature film of Maria Speth (“In the Tag hinein”, “Madonnen”, “9 Leben”)
+++ p.s INTRODUCING …. My Lovely and talented Kiddo Elvis has started his own Blog because aside from all the other things he is interested in, it seems he caught his Mama’s music lover bug and plans to go his own direction // I’m proud so I am shouting out here :: check out :: http://plemusic.wordpress.com/
Dear Friends and Lovely Listeners,
It was a crazy month February… so many ups and downs i was feeling sorta Coney Island. I wish it was over and we could yell and scream Hurrah and drink some Bubbly! but it is not quite there yet, but perhaps a small step closer to having that “be a possability”. So don’t check SCHOKOLADEN off the endangered list quite yet, instead continue coming out and enjoying our evenings because WE will let you know when we are out of the woods, not the media. BUT I am happy that i could have at least another month to call it my Home :: M:Soundtrack has two shows this month starting with TODAY :: then NEXT WEEK :: and some other COMING UPS. I hope to see you very soon, Mx

Mary Ocher (Berlin/Tel Aviv) // Born in Moscow, former USSR. moved to Tel Aviv at the age of 4 and to Berlin at the age of 20.
Ocher has been playing around with words, music, colors and textures from a rather tender age and officially with the craft of songwriting from the age of 11. Disillusioned by the mainstream industry, she has decided to do everything DIY.
Other than playing live Ocher also organizes a festival and shows every now and then and djs for her line The Queens and The Rebels of Unpopular Culture. (“various oddities from the 20th century, from cabaret, via beat to no wave and space disco”)
In 2009-2011 Ocher has published quite a few poems in various English language publications.

M:Soundtrack presents on the 8th of March, 2012 @ 8 p.m. in SCHOKOLADEN MITTE // The Ladies > Doing it Yourself < SHOWCASE w/ Dorothea Münsch (Bln) _ ( Video + Pre-Release LISTEN Party) & Lianne Hall (Brighton,UK) + Dj
//////////////////////////
Lianne has taken time out from recording with Orbital’s Paul Hartnoll and running the Brighton venue West Hill Hall to write, record and release Crossing Wires. “The name partly comes from being overwhelmed by the number of wires I was using to record it” she says, while the track Telephone in a Foreign City speaks of the ethics of squatting: “crossing wires is not stealing/ find the nearest empty building.”
It’s a collection of ten skilfully executed folk-pop songs, with a number of exceptional vocal performances along the way. Intro track Scissors is a break-up tale that startles with cleverly cut up phrases set to piano and subtle, crunchy beats.
Telephone in a Foreign City, an unequivocal hit, bounds along to a summery pop beat. Fair Enough blends acoustica with electronica, the disarmingly measured howling of Cry Wolf further evidences the versatility of that voice, and the wistful with the Light swoops and swoons, loops and twists to the end of side one. Opening side two, echoes of Harriet Wheeler and Liz Phair collide in the faster-paced For. Richly intriguing and emotive, Learning Curves brings bass and keyboards into the mix.

Dear Friends and Lovely Listeners and my dear Chocolate store,
A Love Letter, a Thank you- a Goodbye? ::: Is that all there is? // http://youtu.be/O0ZUAorP0b4
I have spent the greater part of my life dedicated to watching, listening, loving and hoping.. and a large part of that was within the walls of Ackerstr. 169! There I learned what community could do when having the right ingredients and perhaps the right place and time and how we COULD choose how we wanted to live and share with an ideology which has not been easy to stick to in the times we live in, but always upheld in the big picture for the greater good of the community. Somehow in the reflection of the choices I made over the years no matter if I strayed off in other adventures, tried my hand at other things, I always kept one foot in this world …
Because one doesn’t get many chances in life to be a part of keeping dreams alive. Granted our versions of dreams and what and whom they may benefit are completely different but in the end dreams are things we have to strive for each day: even if just a little –so we know that the last string between the dreams and a larger “wakened” reality are kept intact. I have been doing that now for many years doing what i could even when other concerns in my life were larger and more immediate .. I kept my foot there but more importantly, my heart: for a place, for its people, for a community that strove each day for this dream by making it a reality.
I may be writing a love letter in haste but perhaps its a long time coming .. maybe more of a big thank you for what you have given me all these years. I pass that on to my son who also spent his first 7 years of life within its walls. An ode to you dear Ackerstr. 169 :: the chocolate store aka Schokoladen and all the amazing people who i have met and have been honored to now call friends !
Viva-Long live Schokoladen! yours, Mx
and the p.s. is perhaps the last events i will have in this great place :: please come out and support us until the last moment and check every event www.schokoladen-mitte.de and see which one could be for you too.- i am sure you will find something! :: the rose colored walls, the worn womb like stage and the people who spirit its insides thank you and hope that you never forget!
THIS WEEK 02.02.2012 //
M:SOUNDTRACK+ REGEN Konzerte// Carlos Cipa (München) + S ND Y P RL RS (Bln) + DJ
A Special evening with Piano .. It’s dusted off and brought to us by Carlos Cipa from Münich. In 2011 he was invited to join a compilation for the red cross with 36 artists/bands from around the planet, including Nils Frahm, Ólafur Arnalds, Peter Broderick and many more. This may give you a look at the influences of the evening
CARLOS CIPA // is a musician/composer residing in Munich, Germany, where he is currently studying film music composition. He just finished the recordings of his first album which will be released very soon.
His piano music impresses particularly because of its intensity and great attention to detail. It is not only influenced by his classical background and symphonic film music works, but also by the experiences he made as a drummer in different hardcore punk/screamo bands.
Besides the piano he is interested in all different kinds of instruments, as experimenting takes an important role in his work. He discovered his passion for music very early in his life. At the age of 6 he began taking classical piano lessons with various renowned teachers.
When he started playing drums 10 years later he turned his back on classical music and became interested in composing and improvisation.
S ND Y P RL RS (Bln) // is the moniker of Berlin-based artist/musician Malte Cornelius Jantzen. Formerly known as Songs For Sunday Parlours or Sunday Parlours, which he neverreally liked, he stripped it down but he still doesn’t really like it.
One could describe his songs as what people call ‘indie’, but basicly S ND Y P RL RS is deeply rooted in pure diy spirit and rare lofi soul. Heavily influenced by 90s rock like early Cat Power, Low or Modest Mouse.
His new album BRING DEATH TO S ND Y P RL RS is out now via New Wedding Avant-Garde and was described as “lofi pop noise” and “beautiful and destructive at the same time”.

The week after that 16.02.2012 //
M:Soundtrack presents: Cats and Cats and Cats (UK) + Oh Pears (US) + Gewalt Disney Team for a blow out party …
Cats and Cats and Cats (UK) // stagger their trademark brand of catchy math rock with folk inspired post rock sections. They formed in 2005. Extensive touring followed with the band sharing stages with luminaries such as Youthmovies, 65 Days of Static, Foals and Blood Red Shoes and performing at 2007’s Glastonbury Festival.
Cats x3 were soon gaining label interest and, after releasing a split single for Wolf Party records, found a home for their next release with well known Oxford based label Big Scary Monsters. The Split EP with Oxford’s This Town Needs Guns (2007) was a storming success and Huw Stephens invited both bands to record a Radio 1 Session.
Oh! Pears (US) // is the brainchild of Philadelphia’s Corey Duncan, a thrilling new voice whose work draws equally from the worlds of indie-pop (Beirut, Grizzly Bear) and classical composition (Ravel, Tchaikovsky) to create enchanting songs with transformative power.
Fill Your Lungs, the latest Release of Oh! Pears, finds Duncan exploring a sound a lifetime in the making, setting stunning orchestral arrangements drawn from his family’s long lineage of classical musicians to urgent, three-minute perfect pop nuggets not far removed from the stylings of his previous outfit, Pattern Is Movement. It’s an engrossing sound that places Duncan at the forefront of a class of high-minded American songwriters like Van Dyke Parks and Jeremy Enigk.
The songs on Oh! Pears’ debut Fill Your Lungs EP deal with startlingly personal themes; “Singers” is about Duncan and his brother forging their own identities amid intense Catholicism. “The Hall” touches on a relative’s gradual loss of sight, and how he learns to adjust his life to the change. “A lot of these songs, really, are identity songs,” Duncan says. “Who my family is, who my friends are.”

If you were at the last screening I had from Vincent Moon and Efterklang almost a year ago, you can imagine what beautiful images and sound awaits you.
“An intoxicating picture & sound piece disguised as a road movie”
“Vincent Moon is back with what he calls his best film ever. We are not reluctant to agree with him… Lulacruza travel across Colombia to take the country’s musical nectar and transform it into their almost shamanic trance sessions, Moon follows closely with his sensuous-seeking camera and responsive musicianship…

FENSTER // a duo of New Yorker-turned-Berliner JJ Weihl and Berlin-born Jonathan Jarzyna, that plays de-constructed pop music, layering subtle distortions, melodic chords and city soundscapes under dream narratives. Their sound and recording style has analog warmth, exploring the relationship between machine errors in their circuit bended beats and the tactile use of objects and instrumentation. Their influences range from the Velvet Underground to, the sounds of broken records, the hum of a washing machine, or the faint melodies of oldies tunes through their kitchen radio.

NEW YEAR Soundtrack
Dear friends and Lovely Listeners,
This past year was a whirlwind and the music was as moving and eclectic as its speed. Full of events and shows that i was very proud to be a part of and of the tremendously talented folks i am privy to meet each year that makes my soundtrack grow and grow.. thanks to you all and the guests who came out to share these special moments.
Back to Business Here is why we are here //
M: Soundtrack presents on 19.01.2012 And The Wiremen (NYC) + Squid Libets (Bln) + Dj Mika Risiko at Schokoladen Mitte – Ackerstr. 169 – Rosenthalerplatz U8
And The Wiremen (NYC) // is a Brooklyn-based ensemble led by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Lynn Wright. As the primary songwriter and lyricist, he specifically works and collaborates with core members Paul Watson (Sparklehorse) on trumpet, Tony Maimone (Pere Ubu) on bass, and longtime partner in crime Jon Petrow (Cloudroom) on guitar (with whom Wright also shares time in another laudable Brooklyn-based outfit, Bee and Flower).
The experience, ingenuity, and craft this collection of musicians brings to the table is further enhanced by their collective willingness to defy genre. They are improvisatory, whimsical, and pleasurably good at leaving a listener playing a song-to-song guessing game. At times heavily Latin-influenced–with strokes of cumbia and an underpinning of Colombian and Brazilian percussion–these songs comfortably move into jazz, avant-pop, or blues–sometimes within the same number–despite a deceptive minimalist approach to song structures. Lyrically, Wright is cogent, funny, and literate; a virtuoso, really. He has a knack for catchy one-liners (hardly throwaways) and passages that sound indebted to some wily trident of Faulkner, South American Surrealism and film noir–aspects which combine to push both the music and Wright’s smooth, cool-as-a-cucumber delivery into the lofty realms of fable. – Pete Simonelli (Enablers)
Squid Libets (Bln) // play music that could sway underwater repeating like waves or breaking into foam crashing on rocks, enjoying the experience of swimming naked into the romantic deep sides of the heart
drums Janja Pervan guitar Zelda Panda bass Johanna Olausson guitar, vocals Raliza Nikolowa

THURSDAY, 17. November @ 8 p.m. begin!// SNAILHOUSE (CAN) + Water Brother (Bln/US) + DJ decent //https://www.facebook.com/events/251311368247219/
SNAILHOUSE (CAN) // is an ongoing collection of songs by Montreal based artist Mike Feuerstack. Half singer-songwriter, half experimental guitar player – Feuerstack is in love with words and music and how they play together. Over the course of 6 albums and 2 EPs, Snailhouse has earned a very loyal following all over the underground music world.
Snailhouse’s last record, the Jeremy Gara produced Lies on the Prize was widely acclaimed (including a Polaris nomination) for its panoramic and literate musicality.
The latest offering, 2011′s Sentimental Gentleman, is a record of emotional and musical extremes, which deftly showcases Feuerstack’s unique and literate sense of humour & heartbreak.
At once classic and inventive, the unique song-craft and sensibility listeners come to expect from Snailhouse takes genres both new and old and weaves them into something that can never be listened to the same way twice.

I did one of my first M:Soundtrack shows ever with Great Lake Swimmers so its kinda full circle now having The Siskiyou guys here again on our stage . Nice.. I am really looking forward!
///////////////////////////
SISKIYOU (CAN) // is the new group led by former Great Lake Swimmers member Colin Huebert in collaboration with Erik Arnesen (who still plays with the Swimmers). The group is based in Vancouver, Canada where Huebert has recently settled after a stint working on an organic farm following his departure from the Swimmers
Huebert had channeled the songs comprising siskiyou’s eponymous debut with immediacy and austerity, recording dozens of tunes at home with only voice and guitar, generally within minutes of their conception, as an exercise in unmediated documentation. From this audio sketchbook, Huebert and Arnesen began building gently ornate arrangements on top of various tunes, recording overdubs in itinerant fashion in hallways, stairwells, bathrooms and parks throughout the Vancouver area.
Banjo, piano, accordion and electric guitar play the lead roles in adorning Colin’s initial acoustic guitar sketches. The resulting collection of songs thrums with a scrupulous lo-fi backwoods energy and restraint. The music has been described as perfectly conjuring the lush, crisp yet often chilly landscape of the Pacific Northwest.
Influences : Guided by Voices
Royalchord (OZ/BLN)// are a psychedelic and always endearing electronic pop journey through the emotional highs, lows and in-betweens of existence. This post-modern duos music has been described as mellow and hypnotic, and Royalchord are the songwriting duo of Eliza Hiscox and Tammy Haider, originally from Melbourne, Australia.
Known for their intimate, charming, honest, eclectic, fragile and surprising live performances, Royalchord are compared to Cocorosie, Catpower and other such female contemporaries, but prefer to cite their influences as “Eddy Grant, Timbaland, Air and Hall & Oates”. They could just as easily be found listening to Yacht rock as Hip hop.

SUNDAY, 20. November @ 6 p.m. – 18h Begin!!! __ ALL AGES – MATINEE KONZERT //
PASCAL PINION (Iceland)+ Rae Spoon (Can) + Screening: Back Yard Rockumentary + MORR MUSIC DJ TEAM // https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=167891146627036
M:Soundtrack and Schokoladen welcomes the Morr Music team and the lovey Icelandic Teenagers PASCAL PINON for an afternoon of Music Tacos and More Moor Music. + Opening the very talented RAE SPOON (CAN) afterwards (9 p.m.) there will be a screening of the Rockumentary distributed by Morr Music called BACK YARD by Árni Sveinsson
THIS IS AN ALL AGES SHOW!
so come early eat some Tacos and listen to some great music!
////////////////
PASCAL PINION (Iceland/Morr Music) // are the twins Jófríður and Ásthildur, two girls from Reykjavík, Iceland. When they were only fourteen they got together with two of their friends and decided to start a band. Using the instruments they had, Pascal Pinon worked in the twin’s bedroom.
Age is just a number? Well, certainly not in this case: Listening to “Pascal Pinon,” the band’s eponymous debut album, the fact that you’re dealing with a bunch of 16-year-old teenage girls is way too evident and in-your-face to merely dismiss it as some kind of “additional cuteness”.
In this Teenage bedroom they had their first concert calling it ‘The Friendly Concert’. Only a few months later Pascal Pinon had already played various local venues and decided to record their first album. They borrowed a house in a small town called Vogar and recorded the self titled album with only one microphone. It sounds extremely cute. The main impact on the twin’s music may be a certain shyness when faced with the thin walls of their bedroom. You’ll find a very special record. A twee mixture out of acoustic neofolk and low-fi pop: an enjoyable journey through what it’s like being a teenager.
It was nominated for The Icelandic Music Awards as Newcomer of the Year 2009. Now Morr Music, that always had a special link to Icelandic music scene will releases it worldwide.
RAE SPOON (CAN/(Saved By Radio/Vinyl) // is both the hunter and the hunted. His latest album love is a hunter, is a pop-infused exploration of identity, contradiction and longing.
Heavily inspired by an extensive period spent in Europe, Spoon examines the various shades of love found everywhere from the club to the internal monsters within.
Recorded with Lorrie Matheson in Calgary, Alberta, Love Is A Hunter is Spoon’s most danceable release yet. He continues to navigate through uncharted terrain, blurring musical genres, lyrical lines and electro-infused beats.
As a former country crooner with previous releases: Throw Some Dirt On Me (2003), Your Trailer Door (2005), White Hearse Comes Rolling (2006) and the exploration of Canada and colonialism on Polaris nominated Superioryouareinferior (2008), Spoon shifts focus to love found beneath disco balls and the quest for belonging and community.

THURSDAY, 24. NOVEMBER @ 8 P.M. beginn! // Pink Mountaintops ∆ (Can)+ Sarsaparilla (US/Bln) + DJ // https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=114952118609551
http://www.pinkmountaintops.com/
PINK MOUNTAINTOPS ∆ (CAN) // “Outside Love” is the third album by Pink Mountaintops, AKA Stephen McBean, who has slowly emerged as a distinctive voice and a very special contributor to the North American songbook. A veteran of the Vancouver/Victoria punk rock scene, McBean is best known for his contributions to acclaimed rock band Black Mountain, as principal songwriter, guitarist and co-vocalist.
The ten songs on “Outside Love” are about or influenced by weddings in Montreal, winter, Pink Floyd’s The Final Cut, Christmas albums, that one Exile song and that one Echo and the Bunnymen song, the Bermuda Triangle, being depressed in the sunshine, people who haven’t made out yet but will in the future, The Everly Brothers, clowns in the ceilings, and bedrooms where skinheads used to live.
Friends and family who contributed to or appear on “Outside Love”, in no particular order, include Sophie Trudeau (A Silver Mt. Zion, Godspeed You! Black Emperor), Ted Bois (Destroyer), Jesse Sykes (Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter, sunnO)))), Phil Wandscher (Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter, Whiskeytown), Josh Stevenson (Jackie O Motherfucker), Ashley Webber (The Organ, Bonnie Prince Billy), Amber Webber (Black Mountain, Lightning Dust), Matthew Camirand (Black Mountain, Blood Meridian), Joshua Wells (Black Mountain, Lightning Dust), Keith Parry (Superconductor, the Gay), and Tolan McNeil (Caroline Mark).
Recorded at multiple studios, “Outside Love” was mixed at Elmwood Studios by John Congleton (Modest Mouse, Black Mountain, Explosions In The Sky, The Mountain Goats).

SPRING BREAKUP (CAN) // is the unusual musical marriage between Yukon songwriter Kim Barlow and Mathias Kom, nouveau Newfoundlander and leader of The Burning Hell. They like to live as far as possible from each other, and then get together and write pretty little ukulele and banjo songs about the inevitable end of love.Spring Breakup is a new band with very old hearts. Here is what some folks have said about Barlow and Kom:
“There are no weak songs here (each musician contributed about half), and many leave the world slightly altered when they’re done. Kom, who also leads the Burning Hell, dispenses his pearls (“the world is my oyster, but I’m allergic to shellfish”) in a drooping deep baritone, while Barlow’s lightly rusted soprano seems just right for songs about what happens after you’re pushed beyond your limit and your dead horse is still dead. Buy this record.” – The Globe and

One such event was the fantastic Rockopera=Theater Piece @ HAU rightly called the “Peaches Does Herself ” Show amazing, great set design costumes dancers trash everything you want and more out of a rockopera BUT…, then when i thought i had seen it all and had had my share of RockOPERAs , I was blown out my cushy velvety seat by one SUFIJAN STEVENS — insane .. that was an epic magical dayglow sweetness with a bit of autotune sprinkled on top .. ok. i stop there but ill be thinking about that one for a while.. when is the last time we heard a 25 minue song.. hello 70′s.
And on the other side of the coin there were alot of events that i had the honor of taking part in since I last checked in and it went something like this :: maybe you were there with me maybe you swayed, rocked and sang along too? well if not there were magical moments and more to come. this is my life this is your soundtrack.

Dear Diary,
Generally you find the M in soundtrack roaming around Berlin Mitte usually spotted between the bermuda triangle bordering Rosenthalerplatz via Ackerstr >> Weinbergsweg border Zionskirchplatz and down hill direction Chausseestr. >>border to Mitte/Wedding and well no farther the other direction to Friedrichstr.–Stadtmitte (yes the invisible wall seems to be crumbling). This week she has found herself making videos (Little E and I were skyscrapers) at Templehof Airport for Susie Asado, working on Supertape superstuff with Sabine and eating lunch near Kotti with S and NP where i received lovely spicy gifts from mexico in exchange for posters and flyers for nexts months gig .. i do believe that was a fair trade. and yes lo and behold she leaves Mitte again and takes the tram just one lousy stop to Rosa Luxemburg platz and sets up shop for the night in the GRÜNER SALON in der Volksbühne — well at least for the next few months she will make an appearance once a month starting this Friday 25.03 with CHING CHONG SONG (NYC, member of Nature Theater of Oklahoma) + MOLLY NILSSON+ DJ Niki Matita @ 21 Uhr. / will you join us ??? i dont get out much you know!

M:SOUNDTRACK presents // on Thursday 10. March @ 9 p.m. in Schokoladen Mitte :: BODUF SONGS (UK) + DROPOUT PATROL (Bln)
BODUF SONGS // is Mat Sweet of Southampton England. Sweet released a number of limited edition CD-Rs by himself and friends, and has made music that ranges from pure electronics to heavy rock on his Bluebaby Recordings label.
Boduf Songs was Sweet’s first attempt to record his own songs. The album was recorded …with an acoustic guitar, some cymbals, violin bow, toy piano, manipulated field recordings and a computer.
Mat sent a demo CD-R to Kranky Records (among other places) and they were so were floored….. the rest is history!
“Arrangements were made to release the Boduf Songs demo as it was, without re-recording. The immediacy of the songs overcame the technical limitations of the recording process. Sweet had created songs with memorable melodies, artful arrangements and carefully placed effects. The Boduf Songs album reminds the listener of a sunny English afternoon, with an ominous tinge of approaching clouds. Sweet’s collaged album art, taken from Victorian books, lends a surreal air to the album.” (Taken from Kranky Webpage)

THE DROPOUT PATROL // TDP started 10 years ago as a ONE girl free-time activity. This one girl JANA also happens to play in the bands Petethepiratesquid and Ex-Best Friends. Over the last year,TDP slowly..slowly turned into a “real” band with the final incarnation and hot line-up:: including Kristof (Ex-Kids Explode, -Magic Of The Rainbow) on drums and Jan (Ex-deleometer) on bass, while Jana sings and plays guitar.
The Dropout Patrol likes Mammals, sleeping bags and Sesame Street.
and FYI “The Dropout Patrol” is also the name of a book which contains useful tips on how to keep your kids in school. oh yeah. http://thedropoutpatrol.bandcamp.com/

20th of March, 2011 @ 9:30 p.m. //Screening of ::: AN ISLAND by VINCENT MOON featuring EFTERKLANG
We will be screening the lovely An I S L A N D. If you come early (times will be posted soon) there is a VOKÜ in Schokoladen in the early evening // this sounds like a perfect sunday to me // come to our island :: the chocolate store x
ABOUT AN ISLAND // In August 2010, French filmmaker Vincent Moon and Efterklang’s 8 piece-live band met up on an island off the Danish coast.
The objective was to shoot a film. A film with the same length as an album, and a film full of performances, experiments and collaborations. Over an intense period of 4 days Efterklang collaborated with more than 200 local musicians, kids and their own parents, creating new performances and interpretations of songs from their album Magic Chairs (4AD, Rumraket 2010).
It was all filmed by Vincent Moon who same time conducted several filmic and musical experiments with Efterklang as his dedicated playmates.
An Island is an unconventional music performance film and an abstract documentary about a band and an island. The running time is 50 minutes.
An Island will only be available via public/private screenings until the end of MARCH // the screening is FREE but if you like it we suggest you DONATE on the website for this Beautiful work which the artists are putting out there via crative commons for all of you to enjoy.

M:SOUNDTRACK presents on Thursday 24.03.2011 @ 9p.m. in Schokoladen:: IMMANU EL (Swe) + POPPET (US/Rainbowdestroyer/Bln)
http://www.immanu-el.com/
http://www.myspace.com/djpoppetsadventures
IMMANU EL // is a Swedish band with a sound of dynamic guitar and keyboard soundscapes, captive singing and with somewhat of a moving nordic presence. The music is focused at varying dynamics and a wide spectrum of harmonic expressions with sounds that can move between presence and ambience. Originally the band was inspired by early post-rock and experimental music combined with pop and indie-rock influences. The ambition has, ever since the start in their mid teens, been to create something captivating, beautiful and sublime – but the ways of achieving this have always been evolving differently. With more than 120 concerts in 22 countries for the last two years, the band has gained a growing reputation to be one of the most promising bands from Scandinavia today.
IMMANU EL started as a musical experiment in 2004 by 16-year-old Claes Strängberg, soon joined by his twin brother Per and old childhood friends Michael Persson and Emil Karlsson. The following year, while studying in high school, they started to create music in an old barn in the countryside outside the town of Jönköping. The demo ‘Killerwhale EP’ was sold out and spread all over the world. After finishing high school the band signed with And The Sound Records, moved to Gothenburg and got two new members, David Lillberg and Jonatan Josefsson. Their debut album ‘They’ll Come, They Come’ was released the following year, 2007. ATS Records also released the band’s second album ‘MOEN’ in the end of 2009, with licensing- and distribution partners from all over the world. Tours are following all over Europe in 2010 and 2011.
POPPET // Was a pilgrim doll in past life. Small fry for weird fashion. Likes long beaches and walks on talks. Classically trained misfit. 1st EP released January 1st 2010 on >>www.rainbowdestroyer.com. A Southern California-based artist collective free music free art free friends free futurism. We’ll work on the free birds.
Handmade custom albums available on request.
Poppet: vocals and vocalises, keyboards, claps, slaps, tin pots, violin, guitar, piano, moral fluffing
Influences: cats named Bear, three little chairs, bicycles, mycycles, apocalyptic prayers, boats, stoats, rainboot coats, all things hidden by plastic moats. See also birds, boys, books, baffles
Sounds Like: Small deranged children shouting into computers.

M:SOUNDTRACK presents CHING CHONG SONG (NYC, member of Nature Theater of Oklahoma) + MOLLY NILSSON+ DJ Niki Matita am 25.März @ 21 Uhr. // in the GRÜNER SALON in der Volksbühne
http://www.chingchongsong.com/
http://darkskiesassociation.org/
…CHING CHONG SONG (NYC) // is Julia LaMendola (vocal, ukulele, singing saw), Dan Gower (vocal, piano ) and sometime-collaborator Susan Hwang (accordion).
They are an inimitable Brooklyn-based band that has been astounding audiences for five years. Ching Chong Song gracefully straddles the line between burlesque and performance art before soaring high above genre constraints and resting firmly in the realm of classic entertainment. In a historical sense there music is more clearly rooted in the New York/German cabaret tradition. It is lyrically and musically at once dark, hilarious and theatrical. In candid and unapologetic fashion, the band addresses audiences with melodic singing, unconventional instrumentation and the fearless energy of pure talent. This hardworking and oft-touring band plays everywhere, from the underground New York scene to prestigious clubs throughout the U.S. and Europe.
They are delighted to be called “…a genuine New York oddity.”
Julie Mendola is also a member of the Obie award winning NATURE THEATER OF OKLAHOMA company and is performing in the company’s ten-part production of Life and Times. She has also performed at South By Southwest, Art Basel, Primavera Sound Festival, Danube Festival, and other major music festivals.
Dan Gower grew up playing piano in Spokane, Washington. To accompany after dinner family discussions, he would slip away from the dining room table and compose little ditties or improvise for hours. He also studied classical music until the pull of rock and roll became too much. Dan found himself in Santa Fe, New Mexico in a progressive BFA music program at The College of Santa Fe. There, he learned the importance of breaking away from the compositional impositions of previous centuries while performing in multiple ensembles and bands playing original music. When he moved to New York City four years ago, he played synths with indie-heart-throb band Bravo Silva until he met Julie and the rest is his+herstory.

MOLLY NILSSON (Swe/Bln) // The magical melodies and touchingly clever lyrics of Molly Nilsson (who also goes by the name formerly known as White Bread!), grow on you as you find yourself listening to them over and over again. With her one-woman-show, this escaped Swede brings her nostalgic pop, on a journey through life and death, with love and trouble, to a No Mans Land, on the border between reality and dream.

M:SOUNDTRACK presents // Thursday, 31.03. 2011@
9 p.m. in SCHOKOLADEN MITTE :: NAN TURNER (NYC/Olive Juice Music) + SCOTT RUDD (NYC)
http://www.myspace.com/nanturner
NAN TURNER (NYC/Olive Juice Music) // A former ballerina and girl scout, Nan possesses the grace and street smarts to make it to the top. When not pounding out the beats as one half of garage rock duo Schwervon!, Nan can be found kicking out the jams with herself.
Vocally, she’s the missing link between Kathleen Hanna and Juliana Hatfield, with a wail matched only by her whisper. The Lucy Ricardo of indie rock, Nan enjoys writing raps and indie pop and experiments live with a rotating cast of musicians she has coined the One Nite Stands. In her spare time, Nan enjoys trips to the grocery store and feeding Gummo. LISTEN: http://www.myspace.com/nanturner
“There’s something about watching a solo performer soundcheck a distortion pedal that makes rock fans bristle with excitement; sure there’s no band, but the set is going to kick it anyway. Nan Turner didn’t disappoint, displaying a striking amount of diversity as she moved between guitar, Casiotone, piano, and rapping (well) on the mic. Turner’s delivery echoes the sloppy charm of old Replacements and Liz Phair records. Her characters are vulnerable but ultimately empowered by whatever they’ve been through, even preferring the “strong headwind.” Songs like “Fallout” present their lyrical images like a vase that’s been dropped on the floor and swept into a box: you can’t quite make out what it is, but there pieces clearly belong to a beautiful whole.” -Sidewalkmusic.net
SCOTT RUDD (NYC)// was born in Vancouver, Canada and raised in Australia. …Scott started playing shows in late 2009 and has quickly become a member of the New York Indie /Anti-Folk scene. When he isn’t playing music, he is working at making a living as a photographer. His music is personal, quirky, and deadly honest.
“Renowned photographer picks up guitar and does in songs what he did in photos, he tells a story in the flash of a moment.” – Lach

M:SOUNDTRACK presents // Thursday 14.April 2011@ 9 p.m. in SCHOKOLADEN MITTE :: JOASIHNO + ANGELA AUX

PRESS//

ANGELA AUX // is a bird on a wire. in future days he could have been a sailor either/or a cook. mainly he’s up for folk, krautrock and experimental music, somewhere among parties all tomorrows never got to know. angela aux released a free album on laridae and a single with his electro-kraut-funk-band l’egojazz in 2009. when the ship comes around he’ll be counting speech bubbles somewhere out in the forcefields. who could win a rabbit while living on a dirty road all of his life? we need someone or something new: the fear of error is error itself.

PHOEBE KREUTZ // is a boozy floozy with a heart of gold. She sings silly songs about the things she likes best: boys and bars and vikings and tacos.
Growing up in New York’s East Village, Phoebe learned a lot about all these things. She also learned a lot about rhyming from Dr. Seuss and the joys of thinly-veiled social commentary from “He-Man” and “The Smurfs”. Now she’s all grown up and still loving life in the big city. She gets to sing in all kinds of fun places like The Knitting Factory, Fez, Birdland and The Sidewalk Café. It was there that she found the jolly antifolk scene, which has nurtured and indulged her like a benevolent uncle these past few years. It was also there that she met the boys who would later join with her to become the world’s greatest art-indie-rock band that only sings about animals in the city, Urban Barnyard.

BJÖRN KLEINHENZ (Swe) // is coming on tour to Germany in late April/early May with a brand new trio put together especially for this event. Karin Wiberg playing violin and Jonathan Larrson on the accordeon are sure to add dynamics and small wonders of arrangements.
Just in time for the tour the new Kleinhenz album will be released on Devil Duck Records. The title is Djago Bråk, and the songs are recorded in Göteborg in February this year. Not only does the highly productive swede bring with him the new album, he has also recorded a live session with the new trio. A beautiful musical snapshot of three people in a room. PINK MOTH (Canada) // is the Toronto based project of singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ray Cammaert. The latest installment of their six volume bi-monthly EP series, Volume IV: Projections, was mixed by Andy Magoffin (Great Lake Swimmers, Constantines, Jim Guthrie) and wonderfully displays emotional rawness, depth, and the exploratory nature of the series.
Volumes I & II feature songs recorded in a Toronto church replete with piano, strings, voices from the altar and thundering drums. Volume III couldn’t be more of contrast: Synth and robotic drum machine share space with glorious tape hiss, fuzz bass, and the odd pump organ of guitar.
